Customer Advisory Board (CAB)

A select group of strategic customers who provide regular input on product direction, strategy, and priorities in a structured advisory capacity.

A Customer Advisory Board (CAB) is a formal group of carefully selected customers who meet regularly to provide strategic input on your product roadmap, company direction, and industry trends. Unlike ad hoc feedback, a CAB offers deep, sustained engagement with customers who have a vested interest in your success.

CAB members are typically chosen for their strategic value: they represent key customer segments, bring industry expertise, are willing to invest time, and have a genuine interest in shaping the product’s future. A typical CAB includes 10–20 members who commit to quarterly meetings and occasional ad hoc consultations.

The value of a CAB extends beyond the feedback itself. Members become invested in your product’s success, act as references and advocates, provide early validation for new ideas, and offer competitive intelligence that is difficult to obtain through surveys alone.

Running a successful CAB requires treating it as a genuine advisory relationship, not a marketing exercise. Members should see tangible evidence that their input influences decisions. Sharing roadmap changes that resulted from CAB input, acknowledging members publicly, and providing exclusive access to new features all reinforce the value of participation.
